Our History

Pan‑American Life opened its doors for business in New Orleans in 1911. Founded by Crawford H. Ellis, Edward Simmons, Marion Souchon and Eugene McGivney, the company had a clear objective to meet the insurance needs of individuals and businesses in Latin America.
Ellis, who worked with the United Fruit Company transporting goods between New Orleans and Central America, had seen first‑hand the need for these services in the region. In collaboration with his colleagues, he envisioned a company for the Americas that would provide best‑in‑class insurance solutions and trusted financial security.
More than 110 years later, that vision is still at the heart of who we are.

Pan‑American Life in Ecuador

Pan‑American Life de Ecuador, S.A. opened its doors in October 1956, in both Guayaquil and Quito. Pan‑American Life’s incursion into the group life and health insurance market in Ecuador and throughout Latin America earned further respect and recognition throughout the region, bolstering the group’s position in the insurance industry.
True to its commitment to offer its clients improved personal and financial performance, the company has expanded over the years and has ensured that our sound investments are backed by strong liquidity. Our automated risk assessment system is unique in Latin America.
Pan‑American Life de Ecuador, S. A. has a clear mission: to protect Ecuadorian families. That is why, since its foundation, Pan‑American Life Ecuador, Compañía de Seguros has been a pioneer and leader in the personal and group insurance market. We offer one of the largest investment portfolios in the country, generating savings and working capital for thousands of Ecuadorians.

Our Ratings

Choosing an insurance provider to protect your family or your business is an important decision. However, having the seal of approval from independent rating agencies such as AM Best and Fitch Ratings, can help make your decision on which insurance company is best for you a bit easier. Independent rating systems verify and validate a company’s financial strength by evaluating their balance sheet, operating performance, business profile and financial ability, to meet its obligations to policyholders.
We’re proud to say that Pan‑American Life Insurance Company and its wholly owned subsidiary Pan‑American Assurance Company have an 'A' (Excellent) rating from AM Best and an 'A' (Strong) rating from Fitch Ratings and that AM Best has also given an 'A' (Excellent) rating to Pan‑American Casualty Company.
These ratings are strong endorsements of the financial strength that enables us to be there when our clients need us the most.
